Watching (Blade Runner) Complete!

After spending some time tweaking the audio, I’ve finally processed the entire film both visually and aurally. At this point the first half the project “Watching and Dreaming (Blade Runner)” is complete and the next steps are the “Dreaming” part which involves using the same visual and audio vocabulary where a sequence is generated through feedback within a predictive model trained on the original sequence. Following is an image and an excerpt of the final sequence.

Note, I realized that the way alpha values were treated by the video encoder (avconv) was very different than “flattening” the images using gimp or imagemagick. I’m still not sure what is going on, see this post, but at least I found a way of making the stills match the video, as the image above. Thus, all the images posted thus far are much darker than the video. When I finally make a selection of frames from the whole sequence for printing, I’ll make sure they all get this treatment.
